YC, a plastics film manufacturer, has invested nearly NT$600 million to bring in advanced equipment from Germany and Japan. After two years of planning, construction, and trial production, Taiwan's first BOPA (biaxially-oriented nylon film) production line has officially entered mass production. Recently, YC held a product launch for its BOPA film, which will be marketed domestically and internationally at 15-20% below the price of imported alternatives.
The BOPA production line journey began in January last year when YC ordered machinery from Germany. The plant in Changhua was completed in December, with installations and support from German technicians commencing shortly thereafter. By May this year, the line entered trial production and process adjustments, successfully producing BOPA in late June. During the trial phase, YC used raw materials purchased before significant price increases last year, thereby benefiting from lower production costs and reducing the 'learning costs' associated with new production lines. The quality of YC's BOPA film is comparable to that of imported nylon films.
BOPA is an excellent plastic packaging film known for its quality and compliance with safety and hygiene standards, with widespread use in high-value, high-quality European and American markets. YC has consistently innovated and expanded upstream in recent years, recognizing the market potential for BOPA as a significant growth opportunity. The new production line is designed to capture market share with a price advantage of over 15% compared to imported products. |
